Winter Solstice Balls

The Winter Solstice Festival is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Chinese community (including overseas Chinese). It is usually held on or around December 22 every year when sunshine is weakest and daylight shortest. Traditionally, the Winter Solstice Festival is also a time for the family to get together. One common activity for this festival is the eating of "Tangyuan balls" (湯圓) - balls of glutinuous rice, which symbolize Reunion. These glutinous rice TangYuan balls can be plain or stuffed with bean paste. They are usually served in a sweet soup.
